What is Elder Law?

Elder Law (also known as Elder Care Law) is the practice of law focusing on the needs of the elderly, mostly during their lifetime, to ensure that their estate planning, medical, and housing needs are addressed as they grow older. As a Nebraska elder law Attorney, Rachel Truhlsen advises clients on a vast range of elder law matters, including:

  • Planning for long-term care, including how to pay for in-home health care, assisted living facilities, or nursing home care

  • Medicaid planning and other public benefits such as Medicare

  • Veterans benefits and how Medicaid affects veterans seeking the Aid & Attendance benefit

  • Surrogate decision-making, including Durable Powers of Attorney and Guardianship

  • Asset preservation

  • Probate and Trust Administration

Elder Law also frequently involves designing and drafting Estate Planning documents. Elder law is also one of the services included in Life Care Planning.
